The highly anticipated premiere of the second season of ‘Reasonable Doubt’ is fast approaching. In the meantime, American Black Film Festival attendees were treated to an exclusive sneak peek.
Created by Raamla Mohamed, the legal drama follows Jax Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi), a brilliant and fearless defense attorney in Los Angeles who juggles work, family, friends, and a complicated personal life. Some may judge Jax for her questionable ethics and wild interpretations of the law, but she gets the job done.
The sophomore season will pick up with Jax in a state of recovery, both personally and professionally, following the tumultuous events of season 1. The ABFF preview showcased the star lawyer attempting to mend her career and personal life, navigating through the complexities of her marriage with Lewis (played by McKinley Freeman).
Season 2 will also see Jax taking on yet another high-profile case, this time involving her best friend Shanelle (played by Shannon Kane), who allegedly killed her abusive husband, a piece of information viewers learned from the show’s shocking cliffhanger in the season 1 finale.
One of the biggest highlights from the preview was the introduction of a new series regular, Morris Chestnut. He stars as Corey Cash, a very ambitious new lawyer at Jax’s firm. The duo will embark on a mission to rescue Shanelle from a prison sentence, each guided by their own objective—Jax wants to protect her BFF, and Corey is focused on boosting his own reputation.
There is certainly a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season, so make sure to tune in! The first two episodes will be available for streaming on August 22, with new installments dropping every week.
