Nicole Ari Parker is joining the Sex and the City squad, replacing Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones), in the series’ revival titled And Just Like That …. According to reports, Ari Parker will play Lisa Todd Wexley, a documentary-maker, and Carrie Bradshaw’s new best friend.

The reveal took place after Sarah Jessica Parker posted a photo on Instagram of the four main stars embracing each other with a caption,

“Oh, so fine.
I’d sing along to 70’s love songs with this trio deep into any night.
@justlikethatmax I’ll see you ladies tomorrow!
X, SJ”

In 2019, Cattrall expressed her readiness to leave her character behind in an interview with the Observer. “I went past the finish line playing Samantha Jones because I loved Sex and the City,” she said. “It was a blessing in so many ways, but after the second movie, I’d had enough. I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t just replace me with another actress instead of wasting time bullying. No means no.”

Based on the book Sex and the City by Candace Bushnell, the series centers around the lives of relationships columnist Carrie (Parker) and her three best friends, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Samantha (Cattrall). The fan-favorite Emmy ward-winning show first aired in 1998 and ran for six seasons.

The new series will follow the characters “as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s”. The revival will consist of 10 half-hour episodes and air exclusively on HBO Max.

The reboot will be executive produced by three of the original show’s original lead stars – Parker, Davis, and Nixon.
