Nia Long has her star. The actress was honored today, September 16, with the 2,857th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, unveiled in the Motion Pictures category at 6150 Hollywood Boulevard. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce set the ceremony for 11:30 a.m. PT, with the whole thing streaming live at walkoffame.com for fans who could not be there in person.
She had good company for it. Variety correspondent Angelique Jackson emceed, and Snoop Dogg and Oscar-winning producer Graham King took the podium as guest speakers to salute a career that has run more than three decades.
Three Decades of Scene-Stealing
Long has been a fixture of Black film and television since she was a teenager. She broke through as Brandi in Boyz n the Hood, then stacked the kind of roles that turn an actress into a cultural touchstone. She was Nina in Love Jones, Debbie in Friday, Bird in Soul Food, and Jordan in The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday, films that people still quote line for line. A generation first met her every week as Lisa on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The star arrives while she is still very much working. Long recently played Katherine Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic, and she used her Variety sit-down to tease that the Friday world may not be done with her, saying Ice Cube is "about to send us all a new script." For a role she originated in 1995, that is the kind of full-circle news fans have wanted for years.
Long has spent her career giving her characters warmth, spine and real interior life, often in films that centered Black love and Black family at a time when Hollywood was not always making room for them. The Walk of Fame is catching up to what her audience settled a long time ago.
Her star sits on Hollywood Boulevard now, permanent.
