Rosario Dawson will lead HBO Max’s pilot for DMZ, based on the DC comic book series from Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli. Ava DuVernay is executive producing and directing.
Per Deadline, the events take place in the “near future where America is embroiled in a bitter civil war, leaving Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ – hence the title of the series).”
The futuristic drama “chronicles the harrowing journey of a fierce female medic Alma Ortego (Dawson) who saves lives while desperately searching for her lost son. But as she contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues, and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost: hope.”
Dawson will next be seen in Briarpatch, a USA Network anthology series. which will premiere on Feb. 6
