The Snoop Dogg biopic has found its Suge Knight. Nemesis actor Tre Hale will play the Death Row Records co-founder in Snoop, the Universal Pictures film chronicling the rise of the Long Beach rapper and mogul.

Hale, a series regular opposite Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne on Apple TV+'s Platonic, steps into one of hip-hop's most consequential figures. The casting news, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, arrived with a fuller look at the ensemble.

The Cast of Snoop

Jonathan Daviss leads as Snoop Dogg. The Outer Banks breakout takes on the Long Beach kid who became one of the most recognizable voices in music, carrying a story that runs from Snoop's early days through his Death Row rise. Myles Bullock joins him as Dr. Dre, Algee Smith as Warren G, and Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur.

Lauren London plays Snoop's mother, Beverly Tate, grounding the biopic in the family story behind the star. It is a notable turn for London, who has spent recent years picking her roles carefully.

Snoop Is Steering His Own Story

Snoop is not just the subject. He is a producer, and he now owns the label at the center of the film. Snoop acquired Death Row Records in 2022, which means the biopic is being made with the artist himself holding the rights to the very history it dramatizes. Suge Knight, the co-founder Hale will play, is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence.

Behind the Camera

Craig Brewer directs, and his track record fits. Brewer made Hustle and Flow, then reunited with Eddie Murphy on Dolemite Is My Name and Coming 2 America, building a lane telling Black stories with real texture. Brian Grazer produces through Imagine Entertainment, the company behind the Eminem drama 8 Mile, alongside Snoop and Death Row Pictures.

The casting rollout lands as biopics keep dominating the release calendar. Filming begins around Los Angeles in mid-September 2026, and Snoop hits U.S. theaters August 6, 2027.
