Focus Features has released the newest trailer for its musical drama The High Note, starring Tracee Ellis Ross (who is beautifully channeling her mother, the legendary Diana Ross), Dakota Johnson, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Ice Cube.

In the clip,  Ross plays a middle-aged pop superstar Grace Davis who announces that she wants to record a new album instead of headlining a show in Vegas, a suggestion her manager (played by Ice Cube) thinks would keep her career afloat. No one on Davis’ team is supportive of her choice except for her personal assistant Maggie (Johnson) who happens to be an aspired music producer. With the music world against them, they come up with a plan that could alter their lives forever.

Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), the cast of The High Note also includes Zoe Chao, Eddie Izzard, Bill Pullman, and Diplo.

Watch The High Note in theaters on May 8!
