No days off! Besides having three movies dropping this year (Aladdin, Spies In Disguise and Gemini Man) and shooting Bad Boys For Life, Will Smith is set to take on a new role. The Fresh Prince will portray Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in a new biopic, Deadline exclusively reported.
Although not many details have been revealed, it’s likely that the film will highlight the rise of both pro-athletes under the guidance of their father, who was born in Alabama and later settled in Compton, California. Despite having no tennis background, Williams overcame tremendous hardship, skepticism, and his own troubled past to raise two of the game’s greatest players.
Zach Baylin wrote the script. Tim and Trevor White (The Post, Wind River) will produce alongside Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment.
