Jonathan Majors Cast in ‘Merciless,’ First Major Movie Role Since Assault Conviction

Published

Jonathan Majors

Jonathan Majors has been cast in his first major film role since his highly publicized assault case in 2023. The actor, known for his roles in ‘Lovecraft Country‘ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ will star in the upcoming supernatural revenge thriller ‘Merciless.’

The film, set to begin production in the fall of 2024, is directed by Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. The screenplay is written by Frank Hannah, and the project is being developed by producer Christopher Tuffin, who has expressed his belief in Majors’ talent and his commitment to supporting artists in the face of controversy.

‘Merciless’ follows the story of John, played by Majors, a CIA interrogator who must confront a malevolent force that has overtaken the woman he loves. The film promises to be a dark and haunting exploration of the human psyche, with Majors at the center of the action.

Majors’ casting in ‘Merciless’ comes after a tumultuous period in his career. In 2023, he was found guilty of assault and harassment in a highly publicized case. The actor was subsequently dropped from several high-profile projects, including a planned ‘Avengers’ movie in which he was set to play the main villain.

Despite the controversy, producer Christopher Tuffin has defended his decision to cast Majors in ‘Merciless.’ In a statement, Tuffin said, “I consider it an honor and a privilege to be working with Jonathan, who is such a great talent now that this matter has been adjudicated.”

Majors himself has remained relatively quiet about his casting in ‘Merciless,’ but his forthcoming return to the screen has already sparked conversations on social media between fans and critics alike.
